When you visit the dentist, you may only see a small part of what we do on a regular basis. Dentists do much more than just clean your teeth and instruct you to brush and floss. In today’s blog, we’ll talk more about just a few of the things that dentists can expect to do on a daily basis.
When you are in for an exam or consultation, dentists are like detectives checking your mouth for clues. While much of what we do is check for cavities and gum health, we are also looking for many other things as well. Dentists are often the first ones to recognize signs of serious health issues such as cancer, hypertension, and diabetes. More than 90% of systematic diseases have oral symptoms, so if you have a history of medical concerns, the dentist can help check for signs. The realm of the dentist is not only limited to the teeth, gums, and tongue, but also includes the salivary glands, jaw, neck muscles, and parts of the head. As dentists, we check all of these regions to make sure everything is in proper working order.
Cosmetic dentists are also artists. Your teeth are our canvas, and we work to produce a masterpiece of a smile. Many cosmetic procedures require intricate sculpting and shaping in order to make your teeth look as attractive as possible.
Not only are we teachers that are responsible for helping patients to understand how to care for their teeth, but at our dental clinic we are always learning as well. We complete many hours of classes, coursework, workshops, and seminars in order to stay up-to-date on the latest advances and techniques that dentistry has to offer.
